That's not a throwaway complaint. Altman gave an example of a severe weather event at a data center campus in Abilene, Texas, that temporarily "brought things down." He also cited supply chain headaches and pressure from impossible deadlines.
The technical challenges aren't the half of it. Experts said that even building a 1-gigawatt data center from start to finish could take anywhere from three to 10 years, with challenges from finding a site, securing proper permissions and permitting, accessing power, constructing the physical structure, delivering the hardware, to finally bringing it online.

Meanwhile, Oracle has seen its debt load swell to over $108 billion, and the company is currently navigating a painful restructuring, including the layoff of 30,000 employees, to reallocate capital toward a projected $50 billion capital expenditure budget for 2026.

Wall Street's Growing Unease: The IPO Math That Doesn't Add Up
